A WEEK IN NEW YORK
Welcome to Pops’Eye. This is where I get to talk about my personal views on matters regarding fashion, beauty and life in general.
I recently took a vacation with my two boys in the States. It’s been a while since I had an opportunity to take a break with then with my entire schedule here, so we decided to go to a place where we could all enjoy – New York. We were there for a week. It wasn’t long enough but enough to spend time with my family who lives there and enjoy the restaurants and stores!!!
We did lots of walking since that’s the best way to get around the city. No complaints on our part cause we made up for it with every meal that we had. I must say, they have the best hotdogs, hamburgers, and pizzas. In other words, we love the food there! Their portions are so generous (no wonder there are so many commercials on how to lose weight), my kids and I never complained about the amount of food served to us, of course. There was this place called Jackson Hole where they serve 7oz hamburgers. Can you imagine how big that is?
My cousin also took us to deli in Madison Ave. where stars like Meg Ryan, Woody Allen and Phoebe Cates go to have lunch. We had lunch there hoping we would be lucky enough to see a Hollywood celebrity, even for five seconds. It would have been such a big thrill and great story to tell. Well, the only story is we missed Phoebe Cates by a day. She decided to eat lunch in the restaurant the day after we were there. Too bad. We’ll try our luck again next time we go there.
One of my favorite places to shop in is Soho. It’s an area where they have all the brands and hip stores that you won’t normally find in the department stores. I noticed a lot of floral A line cut skirts. They pair it with solid colored baby tees. It’s worn with satin bow wrapped around your waist. It’s a great summer look cause it’s very feminine and yet comfortable.
Ponchos are also so popular there now. It comes in different lengths and worn over a colorful camisole.
I love the big flowers brooches it makes such a difference when worn with any skirt or dress.
The fun part about shopping is always discovering the good sales. Finding pieces that you see in fashion magazines and the big department stores for a bargain. Doesn’t it feel great when people think you’re wearing a Chanel or Calvin Klein when it’s just a similar cut for much less the price? Being in fashion is not about the brand on the amount you spend. It’s finding the right apparel that will fit your personality, your body, your style and while you’re wearing it, be confident and know that you look like a million bucks.
It was a great vacation! The best part about it is that I got to spend good quality time and priceless moment with Robin and Ram.
