‘Queens... On Fire’
t’s undeniably the most anticipated concert of the year: Concert Queen Pops Fernandez and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez in a concert together. Imagine all the exciting production numbers... the fabulous gowns and costumes. It would be a night that any music fan wouldn’t dare miss.
Yet beyond all the grandeur about the concert and its performers, "Queens... On Fire" boasts of it’s many "first." "Queens... On Fire" is actually the first time that Pops Fernandez and Regine Velasquez will perform together in one entire concert here in the country. "I’m so excited!" gushes Regine. "First time namin ito ni Pops Fernandez to perform together on one stage and I guarantee everyone that it would be a night to remember."
"Queens... On Fire" also features another first as it will feature not one but two musical directors performing simultaneously onstage. "As much as possible, we wanted to encompass as many music genres as possible like rock, pop, dance and more," shares Pops. "And getting two musical directors is the best way to achieve that. I don’t think anyone has done that yet... two musical directors performing at the same time! But based on what we saw in the rehearsals, it’s just pure magic seeing Raul Mitra and Home Flores performing together."
Another "first" in "Queens...On Fire" is that albeit being a back-to-back concert, the show is composed mostly of duets. "We wanted this concert not to be the normal back-to-back show where the first performer will do a number of songs, then the second performer will do her thing and they’ll just meet in the end," explains Regine. "The show is not only a celebration of music but my friendship with Pops as well. So I’m proud to say that the show is composed of 70% duets and songs we made into duets.
Lastly, "Queens... On Fire" is another first in entertainment industry because it will be a concert that celebrates womanhood. "We aim to empower women through our music," says Pops. "The concert will feature songs about love, sentiments, fantasies and passions of women. That’s why it’s a must see for women and of course guys, if you want to know more about women, you better watch this show! Ha ha!"
"Queens... On Fire" is slated on Feb. 11 and 12 at the Ultra. Directed by Rowell Santiago with Raul Mitra and Homer Flores as musical directors, the concert also features Prince of Pop Erik Santos as guest. Musicians include Ric Mercado on guitar, Sonny Matias on 2nd keyboard, Ferdinand Faustino on drums, Bobby Rasco on bass guitar and Raul Mitra as 1st keyboard. Presented by Smart and Progress Gold in cooperation with McDonalds, Manila Bulletin and Baang Café, the concert is produced by StarMedia Entertainment in cooperation with GMA 7. Radio sponsors are Love Radio, IFm and Energy FM. Tickets are now available at Ticketworld.
Meanwhile, "Queens... On Fire" will also be staged in the States on April 1 (San Diego), April 2 (Los Angels), April 8 (Las Vegas), April 9 (San Francisco), April 15 (Chicago), April 17 (Atlantic City), April 23 (Washington, D.C.) and on April 30 in Guam. Erik Santos is also their special guest.
