Kikay with Pipay
By CANDY S. MANALOTO
Concert queen Pops Fernandez is blooming these days. And the reason behind that twinkle in Pipay’s eyes is — you guessed it — her new “love.” At a press launch held at the Beauty Central in Greenhills Shopping Center, Pops Fernandez readily admitted to the press people and her loyal fans (who flocked the whole second level of Greenlanes Beauty Central Arcade) that she had finally found her match.
No, she wasn’t talking about a boyfriend that the rumor mills have been churning for the past months. Rather, the diva is all excited about her newest "baby" to join her extensive Pipay collection.
Garbed in a Pipay shirt and sequined jeans, the singer–turned–entrepreneur treated Pipay clients and friends to an afternoon of fun and fashion as she introduced her Kiss and Make–Up cosmetics line.
Make–over and massage booths offered beauty and pampering services to guests which included showbiz personalities Rudy Fernandez, Tanya Garcia, Liezl Martinez, Jestoni Alarcon and Nadia Montenegro, among other close friends.
"I have always wanted to do this. I have been in the industry long enough and this time, I want to venture into something different," explained Pops on her new role as a businesswoman.
"The Pipay Kiss and Make–Up collection is my latest ‘baby’ (that) I am very proud of. I look at it as my ‘baby’ because it’s something that I know I can take care of, something which I can devote my time to," added Pops.
Shortly after launching her Pipay Designs comprised of women’s casual clothes and bags, Pops Fernandez’ next logical step was to dabble in the beauty and cosmetics business which makes sense since her singing career requires her to look her best especially on cam.
Pops sought the help of beauty guru Ricky Reyes and contracted a cosmetics manufacturer in Hong Kong to develop the make–up line.
Although manufactured abroad, the cosmetics line is especially formulated to blend well with the different skin types of Filipinas.
The colors are not too loud but tend mostly on the natural, more basic tones to create that "no make–up look" forecast for the coming sizzling summer months.
"It doesn’t hurt to put some make–up, even with teenagers. For me, the bottom line is you have to make your look as simple as possible. It’s a matter of adding a bit of color (on your face) to make it more dramatic," said Pops.
The Concert Queen can’t live without two kikay items which she always carries in her bag — a light pink or pinkish brown lipstick and a lip gloss.
And her beauty secret?
"Be sure to wash your face before you sleep but use something that’s not too strong for your skin. I also keep a sunblock with me all the time."
For those who want to look radiant under the sun, Pops recommends the Kiss and Make–Up line which includes face powders, blushers, lip colors, liners and gloss all carefully chosen by Pops herself.
The pressed powder is ideal for the hot season since it contains UV white, a sun protection agent that whitens skin at the same time. It has Vit. E that moisturizes skin and grape seed extract which reduces swelling, puffiness and wrinkles.
Because the lips also need protection from the harsh UV rays, the Pipay lipstick is the best companion for girls raring to make that splash.
Available in shades of pinks, peaches and reddish–brown, Pipay lipsticks contains that much–needed sun protection and Vit. E for healthier , kissable lips.
Also promoting that sun–kissed look, Pipay’s Summer 2004 Collection of clothes and accessories was likewise launched at the same event.
Sexy tees and tanks with the Pipay logo, woven tops such as Vietnamese long blouses, strappy floral tanks, spaghetti tops and dresses are a sure winner this summer.
On the other hand, Pipay Designs carries casual skirts in printed satin and cotton for those who opt for that classy look. Pair off with ethnic–inspired necklaces and chandelier earrings, and chic bags with rose patches and clutches made of oriental satin prints.
"I have always believed in being yourself. You can be very trendy, sexy, fun and hip…do whatever with your look. What’s important is you have to be comfortable in what you wear," Pops stressed.
